Can I connect a hose to an outside faucet and pump water to an elevated tank?
I want collect rain water and with the use of a pump put in my storage tank. Can I reverse the flow of water to do this by connecting to an outside faucet?
There is no pump between the outside faucet and the storage tank. I would turn off the city water supply when doing this. The city water goes to the tank then the house. There is no pump or one way valve. I was hoping to buy a pump to pump rain water from the rain water tank to the elevated tank.
assuming that everything you have is force fed, it would be possible to do with the use of an in-line pump located between your rain water tank and elevated tank. Im not sure however if it would be a good idea, as you would actually be pumping water back into the tank through an outlet and not an inlet. the pump would have to have enough pressure tp push the water into the tank against the pressure of the water that is already IN the tank. even if you were able to do this, tanks also tend to build up a certain amount of sedimentation in the bottoms of them and you would be stirring it all up as well, potentially clogging the screens in your washer, water faucets, etc regularly.
you would be better I think to spend a little time and hooking into a Y on your existing inlet.
